2011 Vietnam Stamps

I mailed my first batch of postcards of the year today in the Buu Dien in District 1 and to my surprise, they were issuing new stamps.

I can only guess that the yellow and pink colors where chosen because those are the flower colors when the Vietnamese celebrate the new year: red and pink peach blossoms, called Hoa Dao from the North and yellow blossoms from the South like chrysanthemum and kumquat.  Now, unlike the Chinese calendar that states 2011 as the year of the rabbit, the Vietnamese calendar states that 2011 is the year of the cat — hence the cat in the new stamps.
