Puto vs Banh bo

puto vs banh bo

Sometimes, I don’t have to go out of my way to see something new here in Saigon.

Just beside my office table is our food table.  So you can guess that I almost always get first dibs on whatever is on it.

Today, an officemate brought Banh bo or bong for short (right photo) from Ben Tre in Mekong Delta.  Amazingly, it tastes like our yummy puto (left photo) from home.  Ours can come in a myriad of colors and sometimes with cheese on top.  I also love the putopao which is a cross between a puto and siopao (dimsum).  But I love the original white ones the best.

These rice cakes are just what you need to get you from lunch to dinner.
