Holy Week in HCMC

I truly miss our Lenten celebration back home where we get to visit churches, meditate on the Way of the Cross and reflect on the life and death of Christ.  We even join in processions and watch people do penitence the Filipino way (Google if you must: penitensya). As an alternative, I’ll be doing so virtually via Visita Iglesia and the 2011 Online Retreat.

Observing Lent in Vietnam is more challenging when non-Catholics surround you and you have a small Church community that caters to foreigners.  I’m sure there are Lent services in the Catholic Churches around but just not in English.

Thanks to my good friend, Ria for sharing the Holy Week Schedule in Ho Chi Minh City at the Pastoral Centre in 6 Bis Ton Duc Thang St. in District 1.

Maundy Thursday:  6:30 PM – Washing of the Feet
Good Friday: 2:30-7 PM – 7 Last Words, Way of the Cross, Liturgy of the Word
Black Saturday: 8 PM – Easter Vigil Mass

Download the 2011 Lent Schedule (Thanks Kat!).

Leaving you with my favorite song for Easter by Nichole Nordeman entitled “Why?”

The power in Your blood destroys all of the lies
Soon You’ll see past their unmerciful eyes
Look there below, see the child
Trembling by her father’s side
Now I can tell You why
She is why You must die.

Have a blessed Holy Week everyone!
