Terry Fox Run 31

Last year, together with some friends, we joined the Terry Fox Run.  Having family (especially my Dad) members go through cancer is a difficult thing to watch and so I advocate this organization in my own little way.

This year, I won’t be able to join because I’m pregnant but I do hope this little entry will help rally some people behind this event.

The Terry Fox Run will happen on November 27, 2011 at the Crescent.  Registration starts at 7 am (which is quite late in my opinion) and the race starts at 8 am.

I know this is sort of a marathon but it is more like a charity event.  Serious runners should note that those joining this event won’t be running like crazy beating their “record”.  If you were thinking of beating your “time” better be ahead of the pack as last year proved to be more of a Terry Fox Walk of sorts.  Some friends who got caught in the back of the pack ended up finishing the course after over an hour because most would rather just walk.  But nonetheless, it is for a good cause.

You can also pre-register in the following locations and get souvenir shirts and hats:

CanCham Office:  Room 305, New World Hotel, D.1
International School HCMC – 649A Vo Truong Toan, Ward An Phu, D.2
Canadian International School/E-Study – SA.37 Panorama, Nguyen Duc Canh, PMH, D.7
Westcoast International Dental Clinic – 27 Nguyen Trung Truc, D.1
International School Saigon Pearl – 92 Nguyen Huu Canh Street, Ward 22, Binh Thanh District

Download the Registration Form.

Some scenes from last year:

We all had to cross the Starlight Bridge.  Kinda scary to be loading that many people.

And some were busy taking photos (like me!).

At the end of the race (like his first race), Sam was conked out in his stroller.

It may have been a slow run but we had fun.  And we all wanted to help cancer awareness.

Please support the Terry Fox Run!

You can still participate. You can walk.

It’s not a “marathon” but “a marathon of hope” as was Terry’s vision. No times are kept and serious runners are requested to get to the head/start as the majority of the 9000+ runners actually walk (there are LOADS of young kids and babies in strollers). It’s a HUGE fundraiser for Cancer Research and all monies raised locally stay local.

Hi Rebecca! Yes it is! That’s why my whole family joined last year with my son in the stroller. On the time, I just wished it was earlier because it can be too hot in the morning. That was my only complaint.

I was just sharing our experience last year because you know, some people have no idea about the Terry Fox Run not being a real marathon and I’ve heard lots of people asking why the run was organized as such. So this entry can help manage the expectations of the serious runners looking to beat their records.
