Early this month, I had the pleasure of visiting one of the local galleries in the city, Tu Do Gallery. Found across the Bitexco Financial Tower along Ho Tung Mau street, Tu Do Gallery has been in business for 23 years and has had over 200 exhibitions. Owned by the the husband and wife team of Dang Hai Son and Tran Thi Thu Ha. Tran Thi Thu Ha is an artist as well creating artworks in both oil and lacquer.
I really liked Ms. Tu Ha’s dream-like artworks evident in her lacquer —
They invite artists to do their exhibitions here.
Would love to collect art — but we don’t have space for them at home. And even if we have the space, they can get pretty expensive! 😀 So yes, I take time taking in every painting.
I also had the chance to meet young artist, Tran The Vinh from Quang Tri province, having his exhibit there till the end of September.
He has 21 abstract paintings in display. And I have to admit, I am not a fan of abstract paintings at all — but after spending some time around ’em, I kinda appreciate them now. Here’s my favorite among his works —
I like the melding of colors. If you sit there long enough and let the colors sink in, it leads you to reflection and evoke feelings and yes, even dredge up memories.
How an artist comes up with such creations, I wouldn’t know!
Here’s anh Son with Vinh helping him translate.
Vinh is a terrific artist in my opinion and I really enjoy his works. He’ll be joining the exhibition in Gwangju, South Korea by November.
Do step into Tu Do Gallery and spend some time surrounded by loveliness and inspiration by local artists.
