Mai Khoi Church

2012-12-02 14.27.06Where do you attend the English Mass?

That’s a very common question among Catholics here in HCMC.  Although there are a lot of Catholic Churches around, there are very few masses celebrated in English.

We attend the mass at Mai Khoi Church in District 3 at 2:30 PM every Sunday.

Why not in Notre Dame Cathedral?

I guess because there’s just too much people in the cathedral plus there are a lot of tourists going in and out taking photos.

The Mai Khoi Church has just gotten a face-lift last November, so now, it’s a cozy little church.  Kids can run amok outside the Church but still within the Church yard, so you won’t get scared letting them play.

It’s a real good church for families and other churchgoers understand that children squeals and cries are expected. 😀

Mai Khoi Church is airy but yes can get quite hot too especially in the summer.  But now, after the refurnishing, there are more fans so we’ll see how it’s like.

Here’s a lovely ceiling detail in the church that I like so much!

What really keeps me coming back here is the friendly faces of people, the beautiful music by the choir (lots of Pinoys in the choir too!), the priests (some Pinoy priests celebrate here too) , and the Light of Jesus Family group who is in charge of the English mass.  Admittedly, I haven’t been attending the LoJ FEAST (held after the mass) religiously, but whenever I can, I always come home feeling much more recharged.  And even if I can’t go, I take home with me their weekly newsletter.  Reading the words by Brother Nelson and other members, are always inspiring and serves as a steady anchor for the week ahead.

2012-12-02 14.34.48Woke up late on a Sunday morning and missed the English Mass at the cathedral?  You can still attend the English Mass at:

Mai Khoi Church
44 Tu Xuong St., D3

Hello! I know this church. I used to attend mass in this church before. But because I moved to Binh Thanh District and it is far from me, so I decided to just attend mass here. By the way, that church is in District 3 and not in District 4. After the mass, there is a prayer meeting and it is the FEAST.. Everyone is invited to join the Light of Jesus (LOJ). I you want to be enlightened up and want to experience the HAPPINESS place on earth, try to be with them. I really miss the FEAST every Sunday.
